Slow Downs

Incomplete Fingerprinting
Failing to use the specific Fieldprint code provided by the Board or attempting to use background checks from other agencies will delay the process.
Missing Identification Documents
Submitting black and white copies or expired IDs often leads to application deficiencies.
Name Mismatches
Ensure the name on your application exactly matches your ID and national certification to avoid verification delays.
Background Check Processing
The Oregon State Police and FBI background checks can take up to 30 days to return results to the Board.

Questions

What is the difference between a Pharmacy Technician and a Certified Oregon Pharmacy Technician (COPT)?
A Pharmacy Technician is an entry-level license for those not yet nationally certified. A COPT license is for those who have passed the PTCB or NHA exam. COPTs have a broader scope of duties, such as performing final physical verification.
How much does it cost to get licensed?
The initial cost is $115, which includes a $70 application fee and a $45 fingerprint background check fee. There is an additional $12.50 fee paid directly to Fieldprint at the time of the appointment.
What are the CE requirements for renewal?
Technicians must complete 20 hours of Continuing Pharmacy Education (CPE) every two years. This must include 2 hours of Law, 2 hours of Patient Safety/Medication Error Prevention, and 2 hours of Cultural Competency.
Can I work while my application is pending?
No. You must have an active Oregon license issued by the Board before you can begin assisting in a pharmacy.
When does my license expire?
Pharmacy Technician and COPT licenses expire on June 30th of even-numbered years.
