What You'll Need

  • Official Transcripts — Must show a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and be sent directly from the institution.

How to Apply

  1. Submit Online Application ▾
    Create an account and submit your initial application through the BSPA Applicant Portal. Do not use the Licensee Portal for initial applications.
  2. Pay Application and Background Fees ▾
    Pay the non-refundable $95 application review fee and the $50 fingerprint background check fee online during the application process.
  3. Submit Official Transcripts ▾
    Request official transcripts for your Master's degree to be sent directly from your university to the Board. E-transcripts are preferred and should be sent to speechaud.board@bspa.oregon.gov.
  4. Verify Professional Competence ▾
    Request verification of your ASHA CCCs to be sent to the Board, or ensure your Praxis exam scores are sent using Board code #8699.
  5. Complete Fingerprinting ▾
    Schedule a fingerprinting appointment with Fieldprint using the specific code provided to you during the online application process.

    Request a letter of good standing from every state or jurisdiction where you have ever held a professional license (including teaching licenses) to be sent directly to the Board.

Fingerprint Rejection ▾
Poor quality fingerprints can be rejected by the FBI or State Police. Ensure hands are moisturized and follow Fieldprint instructions carefully.
Incomplete Transcripts ▾
Transcripts must be official and sent directly from the university. Student copies or transcripts sent by the applicant are not accepted.

How many professional development hours are required for renewal? ▾
SLPs must complete 20 hours of professional development every two years, including at least one hour in cultural competency.
When does my Oregon SLP license expire? ▾
Licenses expire on January 30 of every even-numbered year. Renewals must be submitted by December 31 of the preceding odd-numbered year.
What are the fees for initial SLP licensure? ▾
The total initial cost is typically $395 ($95 application fee, $250 license fee, and $50 background check fee).
Can I practice while my application is being processed? ▾
No. You may not practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Oregon until your license has been officially issued by the Board.
Does Oregon require a separate license for school-based SLPs? ▾
SLPs working in public schools may practice with a license from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) or the BSPA.
